Grounds For Celebration

In Windsor Heights, right near the Mustards Restaurant on University Ave is Grounds For Celebration.  They have other locations in Beaverdale as well as the Somerfield plaza on Mills Civic in WDM too.

This is more than just your typical coffee shop.  They of course serve your normal line-up of lattes, smoothies, shakes and teas.  But, at lunch time, they have a full menu with table-service.  The menu includes pasta, salads, sandwiches fruit plates and my favorite, the chicken salad croissant.  The chicken salad is full of relish and grapes.  Sweet and tart with tender chucks of white meat chicken, just how I like it.  For about $8.75 you can choose two menu items served with fruit for a wonderful lunch.

They atmosphere is cozy and the staff is friendly.  They also carry an assortment of locally made bakery items including gluten-free cookies which is great because coffee shops don't always offer something for people with allergies.  They also had some gorgeous looking cakes and muffins all from locally-owned bakeries.

They had a selection of breakfast sandwiches available and even have gelato.

This is the perfect place to meet some friends over a cup of coffee or lunch and dessert!  I once attended a baby shower here and it was perfect.  Casual atmosphere with a relaxing feel and good food and coffee.  Check it out!

Mustards...Not to be confused with Ketchups

I wouldn't have thought of Mustards for a family-friendly lunch spot, until friends of ours said they love it.  It's convienent location in Windsor Heights and their large dining room make for a comfortable, quick place to eat.

You order at the counter and they really have a lot of choices from BBQ to pizza and sandwiches to salads.  They have kids meals and seem to run deals on Groupon, Living Social and Deal Chicken often, so check for a coupon before you head over.

The servings are huge and the food is good.  I'm not going to compare it to say, The Flying Mango.  But, the prices are great, the service is quick and you'll like your meal.  Oh, and those little sugary donuts they serve with BBQ entrees are pretty addictive.  I would visit just for those!

The ribs were really good.  Not fall-off-the bone tender, but really tasty.  Josh said his chicken was moist and seasoned well.  My kid is a fan of the pizza and the one pictured to the right is a kids-sizes and runs about $5.  My hubby and I both agreed the potato salad was better than average.

If you're looking for a family-friendly lunch or dinner spot or a place to relax and watch the game with guys, check out mustards.  Good food at reasonable prices in a relaxing atmosphere.

The search for the perfect cheesecake is over!

Baker Amanda and her
Family.
Brownie Chocolate Chip Cheesecake
In July of 2011, baker Amanda Hagenow took her love of cheesecake to a whole new level.  She tweaked a recipe she found online and the product was the most delectable creation you will ever try, The Sugar Creek Bakery Cheesecake.

The business is small, which gives her the flexibility to experiment and try new flavors out.  Until now, her business has been mostly word-of-mouth.  But this cheesecake is too good not to share!  One comment on their facebook page says "Skip the factory...these are handmade and amazing". We have to agree.

The Bakery does not have a storefront, but is located in Windsor Heights and Sugar Creek will deliver to your door or arrange a place for pickup at your convenience.  You can order by contacting them on facebook or calling the Bakery at 515-314-1213.

Snickers Bites. Mini-Cheesecakes.

We have ordered these cheesecakes for a number of events and have never been disappointed.  They are professional, friendly and willing to accommodate special requests.  Skip the pre-packaged and factory-made cheesecakes and give Sugar Creek Bakery a shot for your next birthday, holiday or event.  We know you'll love them as much as we do!
