Spirits & Sweets

Dare to pair one of a kind mini-tini's mixed by Iowa artisan distillers with bite sized sweets created by local eateries. Visit with distillers about the process of making spirits with Iowa corn. New this year is grappa with coffee from Broadbent Distillery. Event partners; among others will include: The Bake Shoppe, Cache Bake Shoppe, Cedar Ridge Distillery, Mississippi River Distilling Company, Picket Fence Creamery, Red China Bistro, and Sweet Binney's.

Make, Take and Bake - $50/3 prepared recipes to take home

Tuesday, February 26^th, 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Would you like to enjoy wholesome, nutritious meals that you prepare yourself without messing up your kitchen? Leave the menu planning, shopping and prepping to us. Follow simple instructions to assemble each recipe, leave the mess behind and take each dish home to place in your freezer to enjoy whenever you like. Participants will prepare three entrees to take home: Quick Chicken Tetrazzini, Chipotle Pulled Pork and Beefy Mexican Lasagna and prepare a side, creamy jicama slaw to sample that makes a perfect side. Beer n' Bread

Sample over 20 different Iowa micro-brewed beers along with fresh artisan breads and other goodies, including bites from Gusto Pizza! Explore that art of home brewing with the experts from Beer Crazy. New breweries attending this year are: Confluence Brewing, Twisted Vine, and Exile Brewing. Other event partners include: Back Pocket Brewing, The Beer Bread Company, Cabot Creamery, Doll Distributing, DMACC Culinary Arts, Iowa Brewers Union, La Mie, Madhouse, Millstream, Peace Tree Brewing, Raccoon River Brewing Company, South Union, and Sweet Binney's.

Gluten-Free Cooking Class - $10

Tuesday, March 12th, 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.Join your Mills Civic Hy-Vee dietitian, Julie Gieseman, as she demonstrates several gluten-free recipes. Learn some ideas for healthy dishes and taste what’s new and exciting in our HealthMarket. A 10% discount will also be provided in the HealthMarket to all class participants. Gather the family and hop on down to Living History Farms for a morning full of fun and celebration, including:  

• Toy hunts (5-10 years old) 
• Pre-school Bunnyland
• Live animals
• Horse and wagon rides
• Craft activity and traditional games
• FREE Breakfast wrap for the first 1,000 visitors
• FREE pop and pocorn for all
• The Easter Bunny himself!

Pre-purchase tickets by March 29 to save, and get express entry on the day of the party. Tickets are $5/members and $6/non-members at the door. Children under 2 are free.

THE GLOW RUN 5k Des Moines will take place on Saturday, April 20th at 8:30PM. The Race will start and finish at the Science Center of Iowa (401 West Martin Luther King Junior Parkway Des Moines, IA 50309)! The Race and post race street party will light up Des Moines as thousands of GLOW Runners run through the course and return to party late into the night!
