Hot Tamales!

There are a lot of good Mexican restaurants in Des Moines.  But when it comes to tamales, you can't beat Tamales Industry.  Tamales Industry is owned and operated by the Tejeda Family and they all work together to make sure you have a great meal.  Tamales Industry is small (only about 8 tables) but clean and definitely family-friendly.  They have two little girls who are well-behaved but love to play with with your little ones, which is great for us so we can finish our meal while our son is having fun playing.  They are located off of Second Ave, take exit 8a for downtown and go straight past Mercy Hospital about 2 miles until you see Dino's Storage and they are immediately across the street.  It is worth the drive if you live out west for something different than you'll find at most of the other restaurants around town. The Tejedas pride themselves on being authentic.  

They don't serve chips and salsa at their restaurant, they say that in Mexico, they have soup before meals, so that is what they serve you.  Depending on the day, Angelica (the chef) will choose from vegetable, beef or noodle soup to serve in a tasty broth.  


 
While Nathan sticks to his usual quesadilla, we are addicted to the tamales.  Their texture is moister than most tamales and I had my first fruit tamale there.  I love the pineapple ones!  Ask for your tamale meal with a fruit tamale (strawberry, pineapple, orange or lemon) for dessert with whipped cream....awesome!
