Waveland Cafe, voted best breakfast for 16 years!

For the 16th year in a row, Cityview has voted The Waveland Cafe Des Moines' best breakfast.  They are located right on University Ave in Des Moines.

This no-frills diner, serves up huge portions of comfort food and they do it right.  There is almost always a wait to get a seat on the weekends.  Part of the whole experience is waiting your turn by the door and being ready to pounce on a table at the first sign of someone being done.   But service is pretty quick once you are seated.  They have daily specials as well as everyday favorites.  Think yummy, greasy diner-food.  Perfect for a weekend breakfast, maybe for nursing that hang-over or just to take the family out for an inexpensive treat.

They offer half-portions of a lot of their meals and for the average appetite, half-portions are always enough.  Both meals that we got today were half portions, for under six bucks each.  Josh had the corned beef hash and I had the ham and cheese skillet.  Both awesome, both cheap and both half-portions.

The hash browns are awesome.  They are always perfectly cooked on the inside and perfectly crispy on the outside.  Heaven.

Make sure to ask for your corned-beef hash well-done to make sure you get that perfect crispiness on the outside of that too.  Your toast will be loaded up with butter, and your coffee mug with always be full.

The waitresses might not be chit-chatty, but they are good at their jobs and get the customer in, eaten and out quickly.  We've been there at lunch time, and even though meatloaf and turkey clubs sound great, we end up ordering breakfast anyway.  It's just so irresistible!  Try it!
