B&B makes killer sandwiches!

We love Des Moines! But there are a few things from home that we occasionally miss. Aside from family and friends, these things usually revolve around food. They are things like fried clams, fresh Maine lobster rolls, Richies slush and real subs. Don't get me wrong, there are a few places that do a decent job. We enjoy the occasional Jimmy John's sub. And once in a while you find a pizza place that will make a good meatball sandwich. But nothing really comes close to what you'd find at your local House of Pizza in Boston, MA.  Every town has one, and you always know what to expect, a greasy, crusty, meat-filled oval of goodness.

I know B & B isn't such a hidden jewel anymore now that The Juice magazine has featured them on the front page and they've even been on the food network showing off their outrageous subs, but man this place deserves to be talked about.  This is the first place in Iowa that gave me that warm fuzzy feeling that only a real new england-style, grease laden, calorie-dense sub can do.  Thick slices of capicola and melty mozzarella on a toasty sub roll, yeah.

Check out this menu! This place opened as a deli in 1922 and somewhere in there they started making sandwiches, which became famous and that's whats what's really cool about this place.  There are no tables, so you have to take it to-go, but the service is fast the the guys making the food are really friendly and the food is really good!  Oh and the food is really cheap!  My sub with fries $6.

And they don't just do sandwiches, they have a kids menu, featuring normal sized portions of their regular gargantuan menu items.  They have tacos and enchiladas too.  You can get pretty much anything, but they recommend the subs.  You can get a ton of pre-cooked meals to go too, things like egg rolls, chicken fingers, potato salad,  etc..  And they have an amazing spread of raw meat too.  You can get packages to fill up your freezer of just about any cut of meat you can think of.  There are even signs all around that advertise tur-duck-en!  They aren't kidding when they say the have killer sandwiches!  You gotta try this place out!
