If you haven't eaten a Thelma's Treats (click here for their website) cookie yet, you are missing out. They are sold at various venues around town for special events, like the Des Moines Playhouse for shows. They have snickerdoodle and chocolate chip cookies and even have ice cream sandwiches available. They are also available to cater at your own events. A mother-son team owns Thelma's and what a great idea it is!
Some local retailers like Gateway Market, a lot of Hy-vee's and Mars Cafe carry the ice cream sandwiches, but the best way to get cookies is to have them delivered to your house (or maybe someone else's house too I guess), warm! And they can even deliver them with milk. How cool would it be to get these for your birthday, or anniversary or just because!
You can place your order online here for delivery or to be available for pick up in the store. They ask for 24 hours notice, but they say they try to accommodate cookie emergencies too! Today we picked up our order because we wanted to check out their new space on 42nd street. They just opened on Monday at the The Shops at Roosevelt location so there is no sign yet, but you can enter from the backside of the building to pick up your delicious orbs of love.
Your co-workers will love you if you show up with these at work, I promise. Your friends will like you even more if you have these at a party and your kids will just think you are the coolest. They even come in the cutest oven-box, check it out. $20 will get you a dozen warm cookies in a oven-box (coolest box ever). Delivery within 2 miles of the store is free and there is a small charge the further from the store you get, but still very reasonable. You need to try these!
